Asia is extremely important to New Zealand because of its geographic proximity and because New Zealand's political, economic and security interests are intrinsically intertwined with developments in the region.

Half of New Zealand's top twenty export markets are in the Asian region, with China, Japan and Korea in the top six. New Zealand also has significant links with Asia through a range of informal and formal networks, including the Asia‑Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Grouping, as well as an increasing range of free trade agreements with regional partners in Asia.

  • Acting for the banking group comprising several major Australasian and international banks in the intenational debt restructuring of Fisher & Paykel Appliances Group which involved an equity raising of $189 million capital raising including a placement to Chinese White Goods Manufacturer, Haier Group.
  • Acting on behalf of Synlait Milk Limited when China's Bright Foods subsidary invested $82 million in the New Zealand milk processor
